Khushi Baby’s CHIP Transforms Healthcare in Rajasthan

In Rajasthan, the health data landscape has been a tangled web of multiple separate systems, each collecting vital public health information independently. Community healthcare workers like ASHAs, ANMs, and medical officers juggle multiple reporting mechanisms, each tailored to different national health programs. This disjointed approach results in data redundancy and interoperability issues, creating a fragmented public policy framework. For ASHAs and ANMs, collating and submitting manual reports is laborious, consuming precious time that could be spent directly with patients. The inefficiencies of paper-based methods affect data quality and hinder prompt responses to community health needs, leaving many issues unaddressed.

Amid these challenges, Khushi Baby stepped in with the Community Health Integrated Platform (CHIP) under the Nirogi Rajasthan Campaign. CHIP has reached over 46 million beneficiaries, including 6 million high-risk individuals. This transformative tool represents a significant shift in healthcare delivery and management. With its integrated interface, CHIP brings together primary healthcare verticals into a unified platform. This innovation simplifies the work of ASHAs, ANMs, and medical officers, enabling them to conduct digital health censuses and surveys and create comprehensive records for each household with a unique identifier, ensuring every person receives the care they need.

CHIP goes beyond tracking health services from the community level to primary health centers; it strengthens accountability using technology. For Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) services, this means verifying that services are accurately delivered, which can profoundly impact lives. CHIP is co-designed with community health workers after 200,000+ field hours, tracking primary healthcare with over 800 indicators across 12 programs.

The journey to implementing CHIP faced significant hurdles, including delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, these challenges also showcased the platform’s immense potential. During the pandemic’s first and second waves, ASHAs and ANMs, equipped with CHIP, screened over 1.4 crore beneficiaries. They identified high-risk individuals and ensured they received timely care, demonstrating the platform’s critical role in managing large-scale health emergencies.

Khushi Baby, with its commitment to improving lives, embodies a vision that goes beyond technological advancement. The name ‘Khushi’ reflects the organisation’s mission to spread smiles at the last mile through efficient healthcare service delivery. It signifies the belief that it takes a village to raise a child—an ethos driving their work in maternal health and beyond. With over 75,000 community health workers and 4,000 health officials using CHIP, the platform ensures that every stakeholder—from government officials to frontline workers—has the tools to make informed decisions. This integrated approach enhances healthcare delivery and makes a significant difference in the lives of communities across Rajasthan.

As CHIP evolves, it aims to eliminate paper-based reporting, paving the way for a more streamlined and efficient system. Future enhancements will include community health worker data diligence scores, continuing education modules, and integration with national health data platforms. This approach not only addresses the fragmented data landscape but also sets a new standard for other regions facing similar challenges.

CHIP represents more than just technological progress; a diligent commitment to improving lives. By integrating various health data verticals into a unified platform, CHIP provides government officials with the tools they need to make informed decisions, making a real difference in community health and well-being. With a commitment of INR 1,630 million from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for Rajasthan’s scale-up, and ongoing advancements in geospatial analysis and machine learning, CHIP is at the forefront of digital health innovation, driving positive change across India.
