Chandan’s Odyssey

Chandan, a fourth-grade student was once a shy and reserved child. He struggled to participate in classroom activities and hesitated to interact with his teachers and classmates.
Recognizing his need for assistance, the school’s Resource Person (RP) took Chandan under her wing.

Trained on Pedagogy skills, the RP began creating an individualized learning plan, customised to his needs and started including him in all class activities. Using colourful teaching-learning materials (TLMs), the RP encouraged Chandan to participate, which gradually built his confidence.

The RP started with short interactions to boost Chandan’s confidence. Progressing from single sentences to paragraphs, the guidance eventually led to the confident recitation of poems and stories. Throughout this process, the RP fostered a safe and nurturing environment where Chandan’s efforts were acknowledged, and mistakes were treated with understanding and encouragement. Chandan felt supported and respected by his peers.

Over the course of nearly two years, Chandan’s progress has been astounding. His fear of speaking in front of a group has disappeared, and he now exudes confidence. Today, he delivers multiple talks during the school’s morning assembly with conviction, a testament to his growth in articulation, presentability and communication skills.

The school teachers and principals are delighted with Chandan’s journey of transformation. His success story highlights the power of personalized attention and a supportive learning environment. Chandan’s story inspires others to strive for personal growth and self-assurance. It also serves as a shining example of the impact of dedicated teachers and the belief in a student’s potential to overcome obstacles and flourish academically and emotionally.
Chandan’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance and belief. From a shy and reserved child to a confident speaker, Chandan’s transformation is truly remarkable. The Ujjwal Kal program, implemented by the Learning Links Foundation and backed by Castrol, is offering support to students such as Chandan, enabling them to address learning disparities in Mathematics and English, ultimately attaining competency at their grade level.

Chandan’s story is also an inspiration to us all. It teaches us that anything is possible if we set our minds to it and never give up on our dreams. It also reminds us of the importance of believing in our potential and ourselves.
